Today you can get a free cup of coffee at Starbucks if you bring in your own mug. People are pretty excited about this (hey, it's a recession, free is sweet!) and it's great to have environmentally responsible behavior rewarded. After all, bringing your own mug to a coffee shop is a great habit to fall into.

But don't dip a paper cup in green paint and tell me it's all eco-happy now. Starbucks is not doing anyone any favors by making it our responsibility -- we're the customer! -- to solve their non-recyclable, non-compostable cup problem.
