ASUL, which is short for Adaptable System for Universal Living, is a semi-modular housing system that's flexible and workable on a variety of sites.

ASUL, which is short for Adaptable System for Universal Living, is a semi-modular housing system that's flexible and workable on a variety of sites.

The purpose of the system is to help "create a custom, green, affordable, modern home" uniquely tailored to an owner's budget and lifestyle.  Prices start at $99 per square foot (for the larger 4,000 square-foot home design), though you'll want to be clear about what is included and not included in this figure.

A basic ASUL home is built with a steel frame, plywood walls, smooth Hardi panels, IKEA cabinets and counters, Bosch appliances, Kohler fixtures, cork flooring, and Milgard windows.
