Blu Completes Another Next Gen Prefab
Blu Completes Another Next Gen Prefab
Notwithstanding the much talked about death of prefab, factory-built homes that are energy efficient and made with healthy materials keep finding buyers. Blu Homes, a prefab startup that just received $7 million from private investors and is opening a new 80,000 square-foot facility in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts, built this green home for Rainy Day and Eileen Cullinane in Rhode Island.
Located in Charlestown, the home has bamboo flooring, no-VOC paints, clerestory windows, low-flow fixtures, Energy Star appliances, and other green materials. The homeowners went with Blu because the company could use these materials and energy efficient construction methods from the start.
In a comment on Blu’s website, Rainy Day said the home is “exceptional” and the company was wonderful to work with “all the way from start to finish.” How often do you hear that when someone else is building a new home?
Day and Cullinane’s home is built on the Element model, which sells from $125,000 and ranges in size from 800 to 1,100 square feet. Other available models from Blu include the Origin and Evolution, and some of these homes are designed to fold open after shipment (to reduce transportation costs).
