The 2011 Solar Decathlon in Washington, D.C. began on September 23rd. Numerous student teams from all over the globe are competing to build the perfect solar home, on display for all to see.

The Solar Decathlon 2011 kicked off with an opening ceremony featuring a speech by Solar Decathlon director Richard king. Other speakers also delivered what people referred to as "rousing" and "inspiring" addresses to the onlookers of the event.

You can visit solardecathlon.gov to follow the competition as it unfolds. The decathlon will conclude October 2nd. In the meantime, you can look at photos and read about the various homes being developed at the decathlon, as well as send in your comments on what you feel is the best solar home.
